The Blakesburg Community Museum and the historic 1892 Abernathy House will be open to the public during the Historic Hills Scenic Byway Spring Shop About, with homemade baked goods available for purchase.
The Blakesburg Community Museum is curated by the Blakesburg Historical Preservation Society and is housed in the town’s original U.S. Post Office. The museum is dedicated to preserving Blakesburg’s history, with principal displays featuring artifacts, documents, and records that reflect the community’s descendants, identity, and cultural heritage.
Purchased by BHPS in August 2024, the historic 1892 Abernathy House is undergoing careful restoration as it is returned to Victorian-era décor and furnished with antique, period-appropriate pieces. Work has been completed in the formal front parlor, and attention has now turned to the formal dining room. Come see our progress and talk with us about our plans for the future.
The Historic Hills Scenic Byway Spring Shop About is an annual event held along the Historic Hills Scenic Byway in southeastern Iowa. During this designated spring weekend, visitors are encouraged to explore local shops, historic sites, museums, and eateries—often featuring special offerings, demonstrations, and local treats—celebrating the region and supporting local communities along the scenic route.
